Star Trek Online Engineer Officer Character Build Tier 1
by Steady on Mar.15, 2010, under General Gaming Discussion
I have been working on an Engineering officer build. These are my choices, the number by the skill is the level that I took.
Tier 1
Starfleet Training
Engineering Team Leader -9
This skill improves the Modification Training and Maintenance Training skill of your away team engineering officers. It also improves the Engineering Team ability.
Science Team Leader -5
This skill improves the Modification Training and Maintenance Training skill of your away team engineering officers. It also improves the Science Team ability.
Starship Command -9
This skill provides a slight improvement to hull strength, speed, and maneuverability when captaining any type of starship.
Tactical Team Leader -6
This skill improves the Modification Training and Maintenance Training skill of your away team engineering officers. It also improves the Tactical Team ability.
This section is really about the away team. I maxed out Engineering Team Leader, because that is my main skill. Put a bit more in Tactical then Science, so I will do a bit more damage then support. Maxed out Starship Command, because it improves hull strength, speed, and maneuverability for any ship I will captain.
Starship Energy Weapons
Starship Energy Weapons Training -9
This skill improves starship beam and cannon weapon damage, as well as abilities that modify these weapons. Examples include Beam Array: Fire at Will, Cannon: Rapid Fire
Starship Projectile Weapons
Starship Projectile Weapons Training -9
This skill improves starship torpedo weapon damage as well as abilities that modify weapons. Examples include Torpedo: High Yeild.
This section is pretty simple, maxing out my damage for my ships main two weapons.
Starship Engineering
Starship Engineering Training -9
This Skill improves starship performance abilities like Rotate Shield Frequency and Eject Warp Plasma.
Starship Warp Core Training -9
This skill improves the power levels of your starship systems and any starship power management abilities like Emergency power to engines.
These are the only two powers in Starship Engineering in Tier 1. I am an Engineering officer, so I maxed them out. These are the core skills for an Engineer.
Starship Operations
Starship Operations Training -4
This skill improves starship sensor, deflector and emitter abilities.
Examples include sensor scan, tachyon beam, and tractor beam.
I did not feel like this skill was something that I had to max out, but at the same time I did not want to leave it at zero, I thought level four was a nice compromise.
My feelings on Tier 1 were that it was really a good time to get your away team in order. Max out all your main officer skills, and power up your weapons and hull. A lot of general powers that will be used at any level of the game.
You will notice I did not take any powers from the Engineering Officer Section. The only two skills were Maintenance Training, and Modification Training. The skill Engineering Team Leader improved both of those skills, so I felt like it was a waste of points to improve them separately.
So this is my Tier 1 build, I am looking for feedback, so don’t be shy, let me know what you think.
Here is the build in STO Builder. I am still not sure what to do with the Bridge Officers yet.
Torchlight -Destroyer build
by Steady on Jan.23, 2010, under General Gaming Discussion
I have been playing a destroyer in the great new dungeon crawler Torchlight. I have been working on a build, and thought I would post it here to see what everyone thinks. I am running on the hard difficulty setting.
First my skills, I plan on putting 10 point in each of the following skills.
Tier 1
Shadow Armor- Summons a phantasm which will attack foes
Dual Wielding- Improves damage of all weapons when dual wielding.
Tier 2
Armor Expertise- Mastery of all forms of armor, reduces requirements and improves armor absorption.
Martial Weapons Expertise- Mastery of swords, axes, maces and polearms.
Tier 3
Defensive Spell Mastery- Increases the levels of all defensive spells.
Tier 4
Frost Shield- A protective shield that absorbs physical and elemental damage, freezes foes when they strike.
Tier 5
Critical Strikes- Increases the chance and improves the damage of all critical strikes.
Block and Parry- Increases the chance to block, either with or without a shield.
Tier 6
Devastate- a rush attack using all equipped weapons.
Spectral Decay- Disrupts the armor of foes, increasing the damage that you deal.
I think I will spend my points evenly between defense and strength.
I will try to socket as many +crit gems as I can.
I will concentrate on resistance with my rings, amulet and armor.
My main spells will be haste and resist all, not sure what else I will pick up.
I am just starting out on this build, so any feedback is welcomed. I always tend to build towards defense, and I am a bit worried about being a bit underpowered with this build, so I will see how it works out and keep everyone posted.
Champions Online – Might/Tank Build
by Steady on Jan.19, 2010, under Champions Online
This is yet another tank build. This build has evolved several times. Let me know what you think, or have any comments. I am using mostly might powers; they just seem to work best. Don’t be shy, any comments good or bad are welcome.

Champions Online Ice Build
by Steady on Sep.29, 2009, under Champions Online
Today I rolled an Ice Character, Steady Ice. I always like Ice because of the hold, controls and slow. It looks like it will do some fair damage as well. I choose Regeneration for my passive defense. My thoughts were with all the slows, and holds, that regeneration would have plenty of time to do it’s thing. Took resurgence for a heal, because it works well with regeneration. Also I am still not sure about the healing bots AI. I like frost breath over shatter, because frost breath does not remove chill like shatter does. I just found that at lower levels frost breath just used to much energy. I am looking for some feedback on Ice Burst. Does the spire of ice explode on its own, or do you have to target it. Seems like a waste to have to target something other then a mob. As always all feedback is welcome.

Champions Online Power Armor build
by Steady on Sep.11, 2009, under Champions Online
Ok, here is a power armor build. This one really needs some help, I think. So come on, let me hear what you think. The problem with power armor is that you can only slot one power in the hand, shoulder, and chest slot. So the debate is which one to slot. I think I have taken the most powerful one, in most cases. My concerns, taking an AOE so late, but shoulder laucher does the most damage. I took the healing drones, just because I did not take it in my might build. Looking forward to some feedback on this one.

Champions Online Might Build
by Steady on Sep.07, 2009, under Champions Online
This is my proposed Might build. I am not too sure how it is going to work out. I have taken some of the standard powers. Invulnerability for defense. field drones for healing, mighty leap for a ranged attack, with a nice rooted skill. I took most of the other standard might attacks powers. I am not a real fan of all the knockback, especially Roomsweeper, but really this seems to be the only good melee set, that you can tank with. I tired Power Armor and just did not care for it. So I try to save my roomsweeper until my targets health is low enough , that when I hit it, it dies, and I do not have to chase it down. I will have to chase a few others down however. Also it is nice when you have too many mobs on you, and just need to get them all off of you, so you can regroup.
Another thing I have noticed with this power set, is you have to learn how to use your block. Especially with retaliation, you can block and really do some damage on your next attack. Just took fly for my travel because it is easy to control. Not sure about Electric Sheath, just seems like a good way to recover some energy, and gain some hold resistance.
I am only up to level 11, so I will post any updates I have as I level up.

Champions Online-good character build help
by Steady on Aug.30, 2009, under Champions Online
Ok so I got over my problems with Champions Online. I managed to work it out so I can play in the head start event. So I am thinking about my first character. I am a build fanatic. I bet I have a couple of hundred builds that I made for City of Heroes on Mids hero builder. So a game like Champions, with its unlimited choices of powers, is going to mean hours of character planning for me.
So I made my first Character, Steadycombat. His main powers are power armor. I wanted to make a character that is tankish. That is my main play style, and in almost every game I play; the first character I make is usually a tank. I liked the might set, as well for a tank. I choose power armor, over might, because might had a lot of knockback. I just did not want to have to chase mobs down, so I went with power armor.
So I went to the web, in hopes of finding some character build help. I found two good pages. The first is a forum post that does a very good job of explaining the whole power set system for Champions.
The second is to a character builder that someone has made. Works a lot like mids, and is a wonderful tool. It still needs a bit of work, but really the game just came out. You can still work out most of your build. Another great tool that I am sure I will spend hours using to build that perfect character.
So I just wanted to share those two great sites with anyone looking for a bit of help.

Steady Rock-Stone/Ice Tank
by Steady on Aug.11, 2009, under City of Heroes
So my Stone Tank hit 50 over double XP Weekend, so will post the build here. This build has Purples in this build, but to be honest, most likely will not every slot them. This is an endgame tank. Build for statesman, hami raids, mothership raids, and the new Kahn TF. Best way to run this tank, is to Teleport into a mob, use ice patch, then use Freezing Touch and Ice Block to hold any bosses, and then allow your teammates do their thing. I have the run speed up to 51.5%, which is pretty good. While in rooted gets me to about 10 miles per hour, which is not going to win many footraces, but is respectable. Get the communter Day Job, and log out in the Tram statations, that will improve you run speed as well.

Steady Double-Dual Blades/Willpower scrapper
by Steady on May.07, 2009, under City of Heroes
Steady Double, my Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper hit level 50 last week. So I am going to post the finial build here. This character is very serviceable. It will be my main leader, and badge collector, for Combat Engineers on the Freedom Server. It will also be my main Task Force character on Freedom. Recall friend and a stealth IO in super speed before level 15, ensure that this character can run any Task Force easily. So if you do not want to use it to lead Task Forces, skip Recall friend. I most likely will not put any sets into this character, as it very playable with just normal IO enhancements. I would feel comfortable joining a team, and being productive with this character. Use this build with this Attack Chain, and you should have no trouble at all. Just a quick note, ignore the slotting numbers, they are not correct, I put is this in after I completed the character. Just use the slots as you need them.
